Vintage Modern from Moda

Our UPS driver must have been a happy guy after he left the store today. I know the pile of boxes we received from Moda left his truck a lot emptier. One of the boxes had this wonderful stack of Vintage Modern fabrics shown above.
The colors are very retro and yet you find your self imagining pillows for a contemporary sofa made from them.
I know it's hot outside, but why not stay inside and sew up a storm. The fabrics are wonderful and waiting for you to stop by. Hope to see you soon.

Tip to help choose the color of your Quilting thread

We love all the choices available in variegated quilting threads today.

Often we will unroll quite a bit of thread from the spool and lay it on top of our project .
We call this the audition process and usually several spools get a chance before the final decision is made.

Our friend Mary Dittenber, a local long arm professional quilter saw our method and made a suggestion.
Try pooling your thread on your project, which was placing more thread a lot closer together  than we had been trying.

Both the photo above and below show the pooling .
Mary finds this more accurate in how it will look on the finished quilt.

Give it a try and see if it helps next time.

What is your favorite way to select thread?

Do you need a fun summer batik Project?

Batiks are such a pleasure to sew with, they don't stretch and they have the most vibrant rich colors.
This is from a pattern called Chelsea's Summer Garden which is appropriate and I just finished it over the weekend. My echinacea's are blooming right now, but it is also very hot here and I can hardly keep up with the watering for all the container plants. Hope you are staying cool. Kits are available.
Thanks for stopping by.

More inspiration from Market

These pictures from the booths at Quilt  Market show you some of the feeling of colors, styles, patterns and just excitement. I will look back over  my pictures many times over the next few months when I try to choose fabrics and models to sew for the store. There is never enough hours in the days, but some times that desire to sew wins out and the laundry will just have to wait a few more hours.
Hope you all had a enjoyable Fathers Day, thanks for stopping by.

Sneak peak of new Models.

We have been very busy this week, but I wanted to share some of the new samples just  finished with you. Have you noticed that time is flying.  My heart is in summer, but new fall, Halloween and Christmas fabrics just keep arriving.
This week was our kids Quilt Camp and at the end of 4 days they all had a finished quilt to go home with. They where a very focused group and we loved seeing all the fabrics they chose. We have several pictures over on our face book page.
My computer was having issues and has been off to be fixed. Thank goodness it is all better and back home again.
Thanks for stopping by.

Citron and Gray Quilt

Love this quilt featured in the Michael Miller booth at quilt market. This popular color combination of citron and grays can be seen in fashion, home decor and the quilting industry.
The quilting was also one of the stunning features of this quilt. Stop by and see the fabrics we have in stock from Michael Miller in these colors.
Hope you like it.
Thanks for dropping by.

Color to Inspire and Create With

Need a little color in your life?
These wonderful photos of the Michael Miller booth from quilt market will hopefully get your creative juices flowing.

Color, color. and more bright colors they're every where.

Do you love grey? I see a lot of it in the future fabrics groups. Personally I can't get to much. Citron,
gold and lime are strong accent colors paired with the greys.
We are sewing like crazy and preparing for our 2nd Christmas in July.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 21st. We will  begin the fun at 10:00.
Thanks for stoping by.
