Cat in the Hat Fabrics

This adorable long Cat in the Hat panel in a minky type fabric has just arrived at the shop.
This fabric is 60"wide.

We also received these new coordinating colors of Minky to go with the  panel.

Have to share this picture taken at  quilt market of a quilt using the panel.
I also loved the body pillow case made using the panel, but I forgot to take a picture of that.
Thanks for stopping by.

Road trip to Leavenworth

On our way to quilt market Patt and I stopped in the wonderful town of Leavenworth, Kansas.
I had never been there before and was very pleasantly surprised at all the great stores and the helpful people. This is such a small portion of what we saw and some times I do not have my Camera at the best moments. It was a lovely day and the Candle Queen store (bottom Left) had been recommended by a friend of mine in Lawrence Kansas. We actually ran into the store when we turned the corner and a man was vacating a parking stall right in front of the door. The owner makes her own candles and has great unique scents and names for all of them. Debbie in the bottom center photo and right lower photo was our unofficial ambassador for Leavenworth. The center photo is the interior of the candle queen store. Debbie and another lady recommend we eat lunch at Luigi's an Italian restaurant that had been open for 2 years. I can't wait to go back if I am in the area. Good food and great prices. Just a little ways from Luigi's was the store, Soul Supply and Hardware center picture top row. Lovely and a fun selection of merchandise. There are also several Antique store in Leavenworth, the top left picture is just one that we stopped at. I hope you are lucky enough to stop at Leavenworth some day and let me know what you saw or loved.

Carolyn was new to me but don't you think her quilt is lovely. She has several patterns and rubber stamps. Let us know if you are interested in her patterns and we will contact you as soon as they arrive.
I was amazed at all the quilts that featured solid colors and intense straight line quilting at this market.

W I P Wednesday

I bet you have lots of scraps just like me and today I just needed to play. I was determined to use what I had on hand, no matter how small. These blocks feature mostly leftover scraps from A Stitch in Color by Malka Dubrawsky for Moda.
It is fun to lay out what you have to  audition possible color combinations. And sometimes it is good to get out of your comfort zone  and try colors you normally wouldn't use. One of my goals was to make a block that wasn't square. (like above)

Be sure to go over to the  freshlypieced blog and check out others Works in Progress.

Retail Therapy

This weekend I decided to go shopping and partake in a little retail therapy. It was all so innocent when I spotted this plate at Von Mauer's by Dena Designs. It was love at first sight. And it was so little and cute.
Well, I thought you know I think I have some of her fabrics Sunshine by Dena for Free Spirit. They are available in several colors and are 54" wide. Do you like tickings? I am a sucker for them, really. I bet I could make some napkins to go with my little plate.
Once I got started it kind of snowballed. They needed rick rack, oh I can have several colors. I like to cut mine 18 inch square and I turn them under a ¼" and another ¼" for the hems. Hint:
I always use a little fray check on the ends of my rick rack to keep it from fraying. It will dry clear and I think it really helps. Do you do something else on the ends?

These fun paper place mats were on sale a while back at Anthropology and came in a tablet you just tear off. (Resistance is futile.) Some times you buy things when you're not sure when you will use them.
So if you need a little innocent project, napkins are fun and would be a nice gift for Mothers Day. Thanks for stopping by.

W.I.P. is done

Do you love blue? I think it has been hard to find the sky blue fabrics of late but these came from a new company called Blend Fabrics. I have to admit this quilt was a slow go but I am happy that I have finally got it all together. Have you noticed zig zags are every where of late. There is so much great fabric in preprinted zig zags of all sizes and colors. I have linked this up over at http://freshlypieced.blogspot.com/2012/05/wip-wednesday-squaring-up.html Give it a peak and thanks for stopping by.
