Perfect child's ottoman, Perfect gift.

Are you looking for a wonderful idea to make for the little ones in your family and their friends. These adorable ottomans are perfect. I made this one for our Christmas in July event this last Saturday. It is 18 inches wide and approximately 9 inches tall.
It is light as a feather and filled with bean bag pellets. And aren't they clever they designed it with a handle so the child can take it to where they want to go. A slight warning if you haven't ever filled any thing with the pellets before, watch out. I now have them every where in my sewing room. They weigh nothing and fly about easily.

The pattern suggests adding an initial or a name. That would be fun and Cori at the store suggested we sew pockets on the sides for books or dolls or little cars. We all thought that was a great idea too.
The pattern also suggests using the new clover wrap and fuse for the cording. No sew, just wrap your fabric over the cording and iron, done.
The pattern is available. Let us save one for you.

Let the holiday ideas begin.

Greetings from our Christmas in July Event. On our bear is one
of the new patterns we featured. Its a no sew project and provides 3 widths and sizes to fit from 6 months old to 15 years old. They are fun to make and don't require a lot of time.

We where excited for every one to arrive and in the holiday spirit.

Some folks liked our new Halloween ideas and where anxious to try out making the easy striped table runner that takes about an 1½ hours to sew.

Some folks where planning new projects.

It is not to early to start planning and shopping for your holiday ideas.

Another fun idea for the Holidays. Santa's mustache holds the napkin on the left and the silver ware on the right. This holiday placemat is sure to be a hit.
Thank you to all who attended, we hope you had a good time and will come back soon.

What is PUL and why should You care?

These adorable pictures are from Michael Miller fabrics with the raincoat featuring some of their PUL fabrics.

The word PUL has been showing up in pattern supply lists lately, especially for  diaper bags, lunch bags, rain coats and diapers. What is it,  it's 100% Polyester fabric backed with a Polyurethane laminate.
It is waterproof, pliable, drape able and machine washable.

Michael Miller Fabrics has developed some wonderful sewing tips.

1. Use a walking foot or Teflon foot for sewing.
2. To sew two layers of Pul without a walking /Teflon foot use a strip of wax paper over the top and tear away when done. ( This was the first time I had ever seen this mentioned and I am anxious to try it.)
3. We had good luck lengthening our stitch.
4. Use All- Purpose Polyester threads.
5. 9/65 or 11/75 ballpoint needle recommended for best results. If you are sewing many layer switch to a 16/100 ballpoint or denim needle.
Care instructions.
Wash with oxygenated bleach with no chlorine. Detergent should not contain Sodium Percarbonate.
Wash temperatures can be Hot- between 145  and 165 degrees F
It is highly recommended to give an extra rinse cycle.
Dry on Medium heat, temperatures should not exceed 130 degrees F
Do not use fabric softeners.
Do not wring or iron on film side.

I would like to thank Michael Miller Fabrics for this helpful information and be sure to check out their  blog post on PUL here. http://makingitfun.blogspot.com/2012/06/polyurethane-laminates-pul.html
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find this helpful.

Retro Dress featuring Riley Blake fabric.

Some times a fabric just jumps out and you know you just gotta have it. When I saw this Riley Blake fabric in the center above at market I was smitten. It is designed by Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet patterns.
It has that retro feel that we are seeing so often and one of my favorite color combos of red and aqua.

I also noticed the cuppy cake dress pattern featured above at quilt market and in several quilt stores I had visited lately. It is designed by the Pink fig pattern company and in stock.
It was fun to feature the really wide red rick rack on the bodice, another one of those retro touches popping up over and over again.  We have several colors of wide rick rack in stock to choose from.

The back is so cute too.
Hope this inspires you to try sewing some children's clothing. There are so many good patterns available.
Thanks for stopping by.
