We love all the choices available in variegated quilting threads today.
Often we will unroll quite a bit of thread from the spool and lay it on top of our project .
We call this the audition process and usually several spools get a chance before the final decision is made.
Our friend Mary Dittenber, a local long arm professional quilter saw our method and made a suggestion.
Try pooling your thread on your project, which was placing more thread a lot closer together than we had been trying.
Both the photo above and below show the pooling .
Mary finds this more accurate in how it will look on the finished quilt.
Give it a try and see if it helps next time.
What is your favorite way to select thread?

All these years I've been matching with a single thread! Thanks for the tip. Also -- love that bottom quilt block!
ReplyDeleteSuperb idea and makes a whole lot of sense.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Love the colours used in your bottom block - rich, rich, rich.
